What started off as a small food truck tenant the Midtown Garden Center in Edgwater moved on to take over a full lot and has now expanded to a brick and mortar blessing Coral Gables. Now with four walls, a front door, and a store outfitted by local makers and tiles imported from Mexico, Caja Caliente has taken it’s talents and tropical vibes to the corner of 8th Street & Ponce De Leon.
I’ve been a fan of Caja Caliente since I stumbled upon the original truck while buying succulents several years ago. Creator Mica and her team have been changing the taco game (and lives) with drool-worthy bites such as my favorites, the Lechon Taco made with Abuelo’s secret recipe, and the Mahi Empanadas. The menu has now expanded featuring dishes such as Mami’s Homemade Cuban Tamal topped with black bean pico, avocado, queso & spicy mayo as well as Mika’s Pan con Minuta Fresh Yellowtail Snapper sandwich with a homemade tartar sauce.
You’re going to want to get your hands on this sandwich while you can as the fish is fresh and will be rotating based on what’s biting in the Keys!
